The University of Missouri College of Engineering trains students to become engineering leaders prepared to solve the grand challenges facing the state, nation and world.
Mizzou Engineering embraces the Missouri Method, which combines foundational coursework with real-world experiences. That includes using tools such as computing technology necessary for engineering work and research.
The below charts indicate operating system, software, and preferences by academic program. Always consult with your academic advisor before making any purchases.
The College of Engineering requires that students have access to a laptop during their study at Mizzou. All laptops should have MS Office 365 ProPlus (provided by the Division of Information Technology at no cost) and basic antivirus software. Several engineering departments have access to Microsoft Imagine and VMWare Academy, which provide development and virtualization software at no cost to all students who take at least one credit hour from those departments. During their first year, students discuss with their advisor to understand the exact software requirements for their academic program. Please wait to purchase software until your course instructor requires you to do so. Some software is available in the College of Engineering computer labs.
